If you have another drive, you could install linux there and then buy some cheap nvme (or sata prob) to usb and transfer the files. Sure, this will take a while, but at least you don't lose your files

it's in these moments that i remember linus talking about how great is to NOT have anything local. you could implode your machine and everything would be fine, connect to your file server and you're good to go that's to say, i really want a home server T_T
always in construction (me and my website)

why not use windows subsystem for linux until then...? i am currently running arch linux, zen linux kernel, on my lenovo l15. this computer is a part of me, and also my girlfriend. we are both as*xual. we love each other very much. linux is how i learned about eww widgets. holy moly, if you though html was fun to customize... ehehe

i was talking with someone about linux stuff the other day and they've convinced me that the next distro i try out either be bazzite or cachyos. they were able to confirm that clip studio paint 3.X does work with the appropiate guide for it through bazzite, and since bazzite is atomic fedora (better backup incase my system dies to an update) it sounds like a really good option originally i was going to use something like pop for it's cosmic desktop, or kde plasma... or hell even like the latest debian lol, but i think fedora/bazzite is around the sweet spot of stable and actually having good packages easiest way to move files would be to get an external drive (seagate probably) and cram everything in there. that way you can bring everything back to the drive, and clear out anything you don't inherently want to keep in the process. basically what wenhao suggested already |

i've been using mint for a month or 2 now and it's been great, my pc has never ran faster and i love all the cool stuff you can do w/ it. once i get a little more acquainted with linux i'd love to try out debian since the stability of it seems appealing, but i could realistically see myself on any distro in the future cus they all seem really sick update: tried debian & liked it, but it was a bit slow for me so i'm now installing cachyos as we speak Last edited on 2026-05-02 18:25:30

I started on Zorin 12, hopped to Ubuntu and stayed there for 5 years. Had a catastrophic failure late last year, so spent a few weeks distro hopping. Omarchy had potential but every few updates I needed to go fix something arch-related. Went with good old stable Debian. I just want my PC to work and get out of my way.

ngl i have my eyes on debian for a while now, specifically devuan but ive been eyeing debian based projects for a while now, and if one of them supports touchscreen + supports mpp styluses with pressure sensitivity i might be able to finally switch this laptop into linux |

I used Mint Cinnamon at first and loved it, but recently hopped to Fedora KDE for compatibility reasons and I love it as well. It updates on a near-daily basis but I don't mind much. In any case, I can never go back to Windows, and I'm not really keen on modern Apple stuff either. Tried Kubuntu for a bit, but had issues with it regarding my monitor and graphics card. Others seem to like it, though.
Learning HTML, hopefully making myself a proper site soon.
