I've been thinking about getting a DAP for myself so I can transfer all the music I've downloaded to a separate device that isn't my phone. To water things down, I'm looking for ones that have an SD card slot & can support +256GB SD cards and simple USB transfer (like just hooking it up to a computer and dragging the music to it), extra points if it can play videos (since I also wanna get those off my phone, too). On the side I also wanna know about how Rockbox is and if it's good to have on a DAP or to look into something else. I also preferably wanna steer clear of iPods. I just want something simple and don't wanna go through all sorts of random hoops just for one thing. If anybody knows of a good DAP or two (or multiple) please let me know!

Just placed an order for it, this looks like just the thing I'm looking for!

I'm a fan of the FiiO/Snowsky Echo Mini. I have one as a companion to my iPod Mini which is actually my preferred portable device (The UX is just too nice) but having a portable FLAC player with bluetooth for my cycling bone conductor headphones is also quite nice.

IDK but if you want a music app for phone that works like a physical music player you can try Tubidy apps they can have a lot of songs and can transfer them to other apps and stuff but to a file It uses YouTube but if you use the App Store make sure to back up your playlists cuz sometimes the App Store can take it down IDK about Android though, I don't use Android I use one called MusiX on the App Store and it can like even transfer from Spotify but I don't use Spotify Last edited on 2026-08-27 05:18:56
